Rough passage

We are anchored outside the harbour at Rodrigues, waiting permission to enter. It was a very tough passage for us all. Especially the last 24 hours which were very windy.

Not far to go

We are nearing Rodrigues and hope to be there Sunday or Monday.

Weather is still very variable with constantly changing winds and sail changes. Makes for very uncomfortable conditions even for the captain. Not the best introduction for Karsten and Clemencia

Half way today

It is calming down a little - at last. Nice day and we are exactly half way.

Saturday, 20 August 2016

Almost half way

We have had strong winds and very fast sailing, tomorrow we should be half way and are hoping for a 12-13 day passage, which will be fast. Unfortunately this means that it has been uncomfortable and hense we have been lazy about messages.

All well and Clemencia was born to be a ships cook!!!!!

Rodrigues

We are on our way. Left Cocos yesterday in fine weather. Now strong winds and sailing 8 knots with trisail. Not comfortable but all well on board.

Our last day in  paradise.  Tomorrow we set sail towards Rodriguez.  The weather looks a bit more settled than we have had so far, so let's hope for a smooth trip.  We will start sending daily positions again after tomorrow.

Andy O'Grady This is the airport at Cocos Keeling - it doubles as a golf course with holes on both sides of the runway. Notice the aircraft on our right and the runway on the left!!!

On Cocos

Still a tropical paradise, 25 years since my first visit.

In Cocos

I remember this spot from 25 years ago as one of the most beautiful
tropical islands in the world. It has not disappointed.

Cocos Keeling here we come

We are 80M from the entrance to the anchorage and hope to be there tomorrow morning. All well on board. Clemencia cooked her first sea going supper - delicious bean casserole.

On the way to Cocos

We had 3 lovely days in Christmas Is. There are several endemic birds there, including a beautiful yellow tropic bird. They nested just near the boat in the trees on the tall cliffs. The snorkeling was also excellent with many more varieties than are in my book.

Now we have gentle winds and "smooth" seas for the trip to Cocos and are making fast progress, be there Saturday we hope.
